Cboe BZX Adds Regular 'til Post Market Time-in-Force

Updated: Fresh

Cboe BZX Exchange filed an immediately effective rule change to add a new time-in-force designation called Regular ‘til Post Market, or RTP.

The exchange says SR-CboeBZX-2026-070 amends Rules 11.1(a), 11.9(b), 11.23, and 11.24. Under the filing, an RTP order is a limit order designated for execution during Regular Trading Hours and the After Hours Trading Session, with any unexecuted portion expiring at the end of the after-hours session.

Regular Trading Hours run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, while the After Hours Trading Session runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The filing also makes conforming changes to order-entry, auction, and opening-process rules so the new designation fits into the exchange’s existing order-handling framework.

Cboe listed the filing on August 28 in its approved and immediately effective rule changes. The filing is narrower than a full extended-hours overhaul, but it gives members a specific order instruction for orders intended to remain active through regular trading and the post-market window.

Why it matters

Time-in-force options shape how broker routers and trading desks manage order persistence across sessions. A dedicated RTP designation can reduce ambiguity for orders that are meant to participate in both regular trading and after-hours liquidity without carrying into the next trading day.

What to watch next

Watch broker order tickets, API documentation, and smart-router settings for whether and how firms expose the RTP instruction to customers. Also watch for similar harmonizing changes on other Cboe equity exchanges.
