CME Sets 24/7 Globex Updates for Small WTI and Silver Futures

CME Group’s 10 August Globex notice detailed two small-contract commodity updates scheduled for Sunday, 30 August, with trade date Monday, 31 August, pending completion of regulatory review periods.

The exchange plans to list 10-Barrel WTI Crude Oil futures on CME Globex with 24/7 technical market functionality, making the contract tradable over the weekend. CME also plans to migrate 100-Ounce Silver futures to MDP 3.0 channel 329 and market segment 74, change the security group code to 4S, and expand the contract to 24/7 trading. CME said production weekend trading for 100-Ounce Silver futures is scheduled to begin Friday, 11 September, at 4:30 p.m. CT.

For silver, CME also noted that block trades will no longer be supported for the 100-Ounce Silver futures contract after the migration. Weekend trading will use the following business day’s trade date, with clearing, settlement and regulatory reporting processed on that business day.

Why it matters

Small-sized futures contracts are often used by active traders who want commodity exposure with lower notional size than standard benchmarks. Wider trading access can make these contracts more useful around weekend macro, geopolitical or commodity-specific events, but it also raises the importance of checking liquidity and spreads outside regular weekday sessions.

The market-data and segment changes matter for brokers, trading platforms and data vendors. If routing, risk controls or chart feeds are not updated correctly, users may see stale symbols, missing depth or order-entry interruptions around the migration.
